Meet Stanley Superfan, David Gilley

When David Gilley purchased his first Stanley bottle, “I had high expectations that it would withstand the rigors involved and always perform. That was 1970. It did—and still does.”

This year marks Mr. Gilley’s 50th anniversary as an avid outdoorsman and a guide in his home state of Virginia—as well as a Stanley superfan. On every trip to the Appalachian mountains, Mr. Gilley rises before dawn and fills his Stanley with hot coffee. Then at 9:30 a.m. high atop Big Walker or Peters Mountain, he enjoys his first cup with his “friend,” a ritual that has become a sacred moment for him.

In recognition of his 50 years as a loyal Stanley customer, Mr. Gilley generously shared his story with us. Here are his heartfelt words:

Stanley is the container of memories and the enduring gear that has survived many miles, mishaps and the worst of Mother Nature. Stanley is my reliable and always-ready friend, my companion that has never failed me, never disappointed me. And always reminding me during each cup how fortunate I am to experience the moment, the setting, the scenery, and the solitude.

All of us at Stanley are deeply grateful for Mr. Gilley’s incredible support, and we are honored to be a part of his outdoor adventures. Here’s to many more, Mr. Gilley!
